Meet the Artist

Danni Blackman (he/him), also known as Decomposing Mystic, is a multi-disciplinary artist. He is a performer, actor, clown, musician, organizer, self-taught painter, and writer. Every project, no matter the medium, is abstract, starting with a thought or two on a loop that demands attention, which he calls "puzzle pieces by his own creation." As they evolve, he sees parts of himself and significant lessons from Spirit and the universe reflecting back at him. He enjoys telling weighted stories with vibrant color contrast. He is passionate about the way abstract and nonsensical expression holds complexities so intimately, beyond what the body can do alone. Danni creates dreams that play while we are awake and portals for silent screams to be released inside a loving container. Existentialism is a significant inspiration for his work. Like the rot from a dying winter forest that becomes nutrients that give itself new life, Decomposing Mystic is an expression of all versions of himself who die, rot, then sustain the ever-evolving “self.”

Danni's mission as an event organizer is to nurture Black and Brown people through the arts and culture, where they are notoriously erased in movements that were pioneered by their voices. He has predominantly produced and supported financially accessible music and art events in alternative rock and DIY community spaces. He is determined to create more environments where underrepresented communities feel empowered to express themselves authentically and provide platforms for resources and organizations who support them. His art and organizing are unconventional expressions of empowerment through loss, a source of abstruse reflection amidst the shadows, desires born from darkness, and the absurd. Danni is currently the founder and collaborator of an art anthology about growing up with a mixed identity with 11 other artists titled “Mixed Feelings Bay,” a singer/songwriter and bassist of an all queer/genderqueer rock band titled “Pussy Whipped,” and has been a member of the experimental, ever-evolving show, the San Francisco Neo Futurists, since fall 2024.
